Director’s Welcome

Director’s Welcome

Welcome to the Family Medicine Residency Program at North Country HealthCare! On behalf of our talented and diverse group of clinicians, administrative and clinical staff, and our governing board, I am excited to introduce you to our new program, based in Flagstaff, Arizona. Family physicians provide the majority of care for America’s underserved and rural populations, and our primary goal in establishing this training program is to graduate exceptional family physicians who will increase the primary care workforce in northern Arizona.

Our sponsoring institution, North Country HealthCare, is a federally qualified health center system that has served the people of northern Arizona for nearly 25 years and has steadily grown to make a difference in the lives of people in 11 diverse rural communities.

Our clinical experiences are based upon interdisciplinary, team-oriented care in a community health center, working alongside clinicians and staff who are committed to serving others and caring for the whole person. Training and practicing in a community health center has several advantages. As a resident you will learn to care for high-needs patients who have limited resources and limited access to care as part of a safety net system. You will have the opportunity to treat a diverse group of patients in the full spectrum of their illness and social milieu while being supported by a diverse staff who assist patients and families through a well-developed community outreach network.

We are seeking candidates who are committed to their own education and who are willing to be leaders and trailblazers as we build and shape our residency training program over the next several years. With input from our first few classes of residents, we will fine tune and solidify excellent clinical experiences in all three years of training. We are seeking medical school graduates who share a commitment to our mission of providing accessible, affordable, comprehensive, quality healthcare to all patients in an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity.

We will only consider applications from candidates through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and who have graduated from medical school in 2023 or will graduate in 2024. We are unable to sponsor J-1 visas.

Thank you for your interest in our Family Medicine Residency Program at North Country HealthCare. Very best wishes as you consider options for training in the specialty of Family Medicine!
